Rich Theis, AKA Gumby, Fundraiser

Gumby has been a friend to Valley Haven for years.  He had helped us with every fundraiser we have held since moving into our new home in Lompoc.  He recently did all the BBQing at the Clos Pepe Winery Fundraiser in June. He has also been there to lend a hand and his truck when needed.

Gumby has been in Cottage Hospital for a few weeks recovering from a sudden illness.  The American Legion Post 211 held a fundraiser for Gumby, their Commander last weekend.  Pete & Kathy went to show our support for a great man and a wonderful Valley Haven volunteer. Get well super fast Gumby.

LDS Church provides "Helping Hands" to Valley Haven

The "Helping Hands" project sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints provided much help to Valley Haven. Several weeks before the scheduled "Helping Hands" day we were asked if we could use any help.  The answer is almost always yes.  We met with the LDS representative, Enoch Mills,  and agreed the lawn needed moving and the picket fence needed some painting.  A few days before the "Helping Hands" day,  Enoch came to mow our rather large lot. It was quite a job given the height of the grass.  And then on April 26th a crew of volunteers came to paint the picket fence.  They worked until we ran out of paint.  A nicer group of young people you will not meet.  The LDS church also helped plant over 350 wine barrels for the "Lompoc in Bloom" organization.   Thank you so much to you all!!

Volunteers erect our Signs and Mailbox

We were almost ready to get our final inspection to receive our conditional use permit from the City of Lompoc but we had one more item to take care of.  We needed to "post" our handicap parking signs.  Many thanks to Matt Moore and Kevin for digging the holes and pouring the concrete to erect the posts.  And another thank you to Jim Bass and Rich Theis for digging and pouring the concrete to reinstall our mailbox which was removed to make room for the new driveway. As you can see from the photo the makeshift post was not working too well.   Mom always said "many hands make light work".  We couldn't agree more.

Victory Outreach Came for a Paint Party

Part of the purchase of the Valley Haven house included a small rental unit.  The rental unit was vacated on November 15th.  Much work was needed to spruce up the interior which require a contractor. However  the exterior just need a good paint job.  Victory Outreach to the rescue.  Much scraping, priming and painting was necessary to get the house in good shape.  It was with the help of these wonderful volunteers that the exterior of the "little house" was transformed from an ugly duckling to a swan. Thanks again Victory Outreach you are a real asset to our Lompoc community.

Los Prietros Boys Camp Paint the Picket Fence

On November 9th volunteers from the Los Prietros Boys Camp arrived to paint the Valley Haven House picket fence.  Armed with scrapers, brushes and rollers the young men spent several hours restoring our classic white picket fence.  Nice job.  We really appreciate your hard work.

Community Solution Inc. Volunteer Paints Our Garage

John with Community Solutions Inc. of Santa Maria made arrangements for a volunteer to paint our garage.  James, a professional painter, scraped, primed and painted the garage.  It had not been painted in many years and was in need of a good prep and paint job.  James was certainly up to the task. Thank you James for the many hours and days you spent making our garage look as good as the house.
