LOMPOC, Calif. - It's a one of a kind facility in Lompoc. Valley Haven, started 30 years ago, is a place where families can leave their loved ones 55 and older instead of being left home alone for the day.
On average there are nine to 14 people who attend the program a day.
Executive Director Kathy Concepcion says the facility provides seniors with food, transportation to the location and activities they can participate in throughout the day.
"Care giving for loved one with dementia and Alzheimer's is a 24/7 and sometimes they just need that break to go shopping, or take care of their own needs and we provide that for them," says Concepcion.
Florence Davis has been attending the program for about 6 months. She says for her it's like a second home.
"I love this place and I love being around the people I'm around," says Davis.
Debby Day, Program Director, helps coordinate activities and helps the seniors with daily tasks throughout the day.
"Families put their loved ones where they can be gone for the day and are assured their loved one is being well cared for," says Day.
This week the facility celebrate their 30 year anniversary.
Organizers say there is a need for more facilities like this in the community.
